Steel casting is one of the casting manufacture processes in which liquid steel is poured into a mold to produce a part of a desired shape and size. It can be used widely in many applications, such as industrial machinery, aerospace, automotive, construction, etc.
The process of steel casting may involve special steps according to different requirements, but it can be concluded into these major steps that will be mentioned below.
1. Create the pattern and mold
The first step of most casting is to create a pattern with a similar shape to that of the target component. The pattern is then used to create a mold that will be used to cast the steel. The mold needs to be designed to withstand the high temperatures and pressures involved in the casting process. QY has experienced mechanists and engineers to provide service of mold design and manufacturing by high precision CNC machining. If you’re interested, check about them from here.

2. Melt the steel and pour into the mold
To make casting parts, the specific metal alloy will be melt into liquid. Then the molten will be poured into the specific mold and solidify. This process requires expert skill and attention, as any incorrect move may leave several problems on the formed parts. For example, the gas could be trapped inside the mold, leading to holes in the finished component.
3. Solidify the molten and remove the mold
Once the molten is poured into the mold, it cools down and solidifies, taking on the shape of the mold cavity. After it turned into solid, the formed work piece can be removed from the mold.
4. Finish and inspect
For most casting parts, secondary processing is needed, as some specifications cannot be done simply by casting process. The component will undergo finishing processes like cleaning, CNC machining(grinding), sand blasting, heat treatment (to further improve mechanical properties), etc.
Lastly, the finished parts need to be carefully inspected to ensure they reached the required specifications and quality standard.

Overall, steel casting is a complex process that requires expertise and attention to detailed specification and quality, but it’s widely used as many parts nevertheless, like connecting rods, high-strength gears, and housings.
